Day Volunteers

Day Service volunteers provide support to service users in our workshops, alongside our Workshop Lead staff. Volunteers at Thornage Hall give their time for many different reasons, whether it is because of an interest in a particular workshop that we offer, wanting to give back to their local community, or because they want experience in health and social care. Without our volunteers, it would not be possible to maintain the high standards of care and support in everything we do.

What we ask of you

As a volunteer we ask that you

  • Have a flexible approach and a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Are reliable and trustworthy
  • Have good communication skills and an ability to communicate with adults with learning disabilities
  • Are able to work as part of a team
  • Are able to attend on a regular basis (once a week is ideal, but fortnightly is okay too)

We will

  • Offer you a trial workshop session alongside a Workshop Leader and small group of service users
  • Allocate you to a workshop where you can work alongside a workshop leader who will train and support you
  • Provide opportunities for you to develop skills in traditional arts and crafts and/or land based activities
  • Undertake a DBS check before you start your Volunteer role with us
  • We can provide references if you wish to use your experience to apply for jobs

How to apply

Once we have read your Application, we will be in contact to arrange for you to visit our Day Services and arrange for you to have a trial session in one of the workshops.
